Scribbles and AI

I have started doing a daily drawing, time to myself everyday to focus and center. I love using plants and animals as symbols in my artwork and am frequently researching the spiritual meanings (Celtic and Indigenous peoples typically rather than Biblical) of them before and after, in the case of spontaneous drawing. In AI I have been working on other concepts to help develop my work; I find it helpful in conceptualizing and contemplating ideas that are the flow of thoughts that enter my brain, in the absence of a mentor or community of artists, it is a somewhat informed and knowledgable growth centered advise provider. Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship, joy, warmth and optimism. The blues and bits and bobbles are reminiscent of fishes, and so Vinalhaven.

Part of my AI exploration is the concept of connection to the living world. The universe both macro and micro, using an idea from a meme of people scribbling to make art (Zen Tangle style), I created this drawing, using DNA strands and these blood cell/platelet like shapes it is like the river of life, but at the microscopic level of our blood and life-force. These are fun and both very different versions of the scribble a drawing concept of abstraction. Fun!

The quest to use up yarn and not buy any more has been busted, but at least I am using it up. Okay, so I stopped in at WEBs in Northampton Mass. And purchased three balls of variegated yarn, which are not so clearly not the same dye lots or even color. What do I do with it?

Also my hands, they do not work so great anymore. But knitting is sometimes the only thing that helps me take the next breath, even if it is a gasp of pain. I have had to change my knitting style. There is the throw style, which is how I learned, and the catch style, which I adopted when using multiple colors in stranded knitting. One of these is also called continental. Other styles have existed for the uninitiated the lady like under hand style for example. What I have adapted is a style that allows for a twist of the purl stitch, catching it and on the opposite side knitting in the back loop. Or not. Who decided a twisted stitch was bad? it looks fine. Okay so style notes. Using the two yarns I made the top to the ribbing, the ribbing yarn is slightly smaller in gauge which is perfect for a nice bulky ribbing which continues a portion of the cable. A nice pattern for someone who wants to try cables but doesn’t want to invest multiple hours in it. The ribbing hits at waist so it cuts in where you need it to. I have a bit of purple left and then some green in the same line, (edging on a cap sleeve vest? still working that bit out.) Perfect because I ordered this puffy alpaca wool from Purl Soho. A discontinued color I immediately regretted upon box opening.

I have significantly changed my mind. This natural (looking) dye (black walnut brown) is delicious. Fat easy cables, I struggle so with the counting of rows and columns. I struggle with necklines, this one seems huge also my math is garbage and the stitches are off. shh. tell no one. Third time will be the charm. Right?

Design without math, who said it can’t be done?
